Indy racing:

The League consists of two series, the Indy Pro Series which is the developmental series for Indy Car, and the Indy Car Series, (also known as the Indy Racing League).

Indianapolis 500 is the main Indy racing event, it's held yearly at the Indianapolis Speedway every Memorial day weekend. Races schedule for Indy racing is fourteen events per year, for a season starting in late March and finishing in September.

Infineon in Sonoma CA holds the only road course for this year Indy racing season, and Twin Ring Motegi in Japan is the the only race outside the U.S.

Indy racing cars agility and weight is similar to that of the Champ cars, but tires are like the ones used oin Formula 1. As part of an environmentally friendly policy, Indy racing cars will be running on ethanol in 2007.

The IRL was founded in 1996 and, since that time, has gone through various growing pains. Like the Champ Car World Series, its cars are open wheel racers with a central cockpit. At first the IRL had difficulty attracting top drivers; however, as the organization gained credence, it was able to attract some competitive drivers.

Many officials, sports writers, and fans who are interested in open wheel racing have proposed the unification of Champ Cars and Indy racing, making one organization with the very best drivers and most competitive races. The IRL may be the weakest of the four racing groups, when it comes to financial stability and name recognition. Many feel that American Indy car racing would benefit from the strength of having a single group in charge, resulting in a less diluted product while helping to establish dominance over Formula 1.
